About Us

One World Malibu offers sober companionship and a unique transitional home that is committed to providing a positive and life-changing recovery experience.

Our Sober Companionship opportunity is an additional support system that provides a one-on-one sober companion to you or your loved one. The Sober Companion helps to acclimate the client back into life after detox, rehabilitation, a traumatic event, or any other experience that would leave them particularly vulnerable. The Sober Companion can accompany them wherever they need to go domestic or abroad: to work, school, recovery groups, etc. The goal is to help you or your loved one maintain total abstinence from drugs, alcohol, and self harming behavior while maintaining their normal schedules.

We also provide a one of a kind approach to transitional living in that, after each resident has been in our Malibu Home for about 30-60 days, we recommend an incredibly effective option to continue your journey in Ghana, Africa.

A stay at both our Malibu Home and Ghana Program will provide an unparalleled opportunity to discover personal strengths, gain a new perspective, be of service to others, and facilitate an awakening to one’s greater self. This is a truly life changing experience, to put it mildly, and is what sets us apart from other transitional living establishments.

One World Malibu is owned by People Helping Children. People Helping Children is a California-based 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Organization that is dedicated to improving the lives of orphaned and abandoned children in Africa.

Ghana Program

“A truly life changing experience”

After 30-60 days in our Malibu Home residents are encouraged to continue their recovery in Ghana. During the stay in Ghana residents will pursue activities based on their interests and passions. We will match them with volunteer opportunities and learning experiences within the community, such as:

• Volunteering in schools and orphanages
• Gardening and farming with locals
• Volunteering to help build schools
• Clinics and housing for people in need
• Working with local artists and craftsmen
• Help coach sports / teach swimming
• Learn to play and create traditional music
• Learn to cook African dishes with local families
• Take classes at the University of Ghana.

Daily life in Ghana is an exciting adventure. The people are warm and inviting and have a strong cultural emphasis on being abstinent from drugs and alcohol, which is one of the many reasons why Ghana presents itself as an optimal environment for people during their transition away from substance abuse and emotional suffering. There are daily AA meetings that are accessible to our residents, the food is organic and locally grown, and the country is filled with incredible beaches, forests, savannah plains, bustling cities and quaint villages. Ghana is the perfect place to explore a new and exotic culture while ensuring that your healthy transition remains top priority.

Our Ghana location is in the heart of Accra. The home is equipped with most of the comforts that our residents are accustomed to in the U.S. such as:

• Air conditioning
• Running hot and cold water
• Laundry services
• Internet
• TV
• Full kitchen and chef to prepare continental (US) and African dinners

Residents are encouraged to stay in Ghana for a period of 4-5 months. This will enable them to fully immerse physically and spiritually into the Ghanaian culture. As they approach the end of their stay, we will begin to plan our residents’ transition back to America. One World Malibu will help each individual apply for a job, enroll in school, connect with a sponsor and make specific plans for future goals. After returning from Ghana, each resident will be encouraged to finish their stay at our Malibu Home for as long as they need while they continue on their transformational journey.

One World Malibu will provide each resident a passport, if they do not have one, and a Visa for their trip.

One World Malibu also offers One World Abroad. One World Abroad is for students that would like to live in a sober living environment while studying abroad. Find out more by clicking here.

Testimonial

I could not fathom that my life would be as full as it is today before I went to One World Malibu. It was a relaxing and spiritual place to begin my journey of recovery. The staff from One World Malibu were so inviting and attentive that I instantly felt at home in the house and community. I was quickly introduced to other sober people that became positive role models for me for years to come. Nothing can compare to the beauty and luxury of life in Malibu, until you reach Ghana.

Ghana changed me entirely as a person. The second you arrive you can feel the excitement, love and culture pulsing through the air. During my stay in Ghana I found a new passion to replace drugs and alcohol. I quickly embraced it and applied it to my life which eventually led me to the career that I love and enjoy today.

The people in Ghana taught me how to live and have fun without drugs or alcohol, and without much at all really! I quickly adapted to being open minded and culturally aware of the people around me. Every person welcomed me with open arms and let me into their trusting community. I learned through volunteering the joys of giving without expecting anything and that I was capable of truly making a difference in the lives of others.

Recovery in Malibu is so special. The sense of beauty and community is healing. In Ghana these things are magnified. One World Malibu helped me every step of the way. They assisted me in obtaining a passport and Visa for my trip, along with helping me find all the necessary supplies that they thought I would need. Someone was with me every step of the way in Ghana and I never felt unsafe or lonely. With the help of One World Malibu, before I returned home to my family, I already had a job setup and a sponsor in Malibu! (I had one in Ghana too and she was AMAZING!). I absolutely recommend One World Malibu to anyone fighting addiction. It completely changed my life and set me up for a beautiful path to long-term recovery.
